A2A (Agent2Agent) is an open protocol designed to enable communication and interoperability between opaque agentic applications.

Use Cases ▼
01

Building multi-agent systems with heterogeneous agents

02

Enabling cross-vendor agent collaboration

03

Creating agent marketplaces where agents can discover and invoke each other

04

Integrating legacy agent systems into modern AI workflows

05

Facilitating agent-to-agent task delegation and coordination

06

Standardizing communication for enterprise AI platforms

What Problem It Solves ▼

Agentic applications are often designed as opaque silos, making it difficult to integrate them into larger workflows or enable collaboration between agents from different sources. A2A addresses this fragmentation by providing an open protocol that standardizes agent-to-agent communication, allowing heterogeneous agents to interoperate without requiring custom adapters or deep integration.

Key Features ▼
✓

Open standard promotes interoperability

✓

Reduces integration effort for multi-agent systems

✓

Vendor-neutral and platform-agnostic

✓

Enables discovery and capability advertisement

✓

Fosters a composable agent ecosystem

Overview

A2A (Agent2Agent) is an open protocol designed to enable communication and interoperability between opaque agentic applications. It provides a standardized framework for different AI agents to discover each other, exchange messages, share capabilities, and coordinate tasks without requiring knowledge of each other's internal implementations. The protocol abstracts agent internals behind a common interface, allowing heterogeneous agents built on different platforms or by different vendors to collaborate seamlessly. The project is hosted on GitHub under the a2aproject organization and is released as open source, with the goal of fostering a multi-agent ecosystem where agents can be composed into larger systems. A2A defines message formats, capability advertisement, and negotiation mechanisms, reducing integration complexity and promoting composability in agent-based systems.
