AI Dimag
AI Dimag is a self-hosted memory layer for AI coding agents. It enables agents to remember codebase-specific knowledge—decisions, conventions, pitfalls, and rules—by storing them as verifiable claims. Each claim includes evidence (e.g., a command, commit, or test) and is automatically re-checked as the codebase evolves. When a claim becomes outdated, it is marked stale to prevent misuse. Users can set guardrails like 'never', 'ask first', or 'always' that guide all AI interactions and can block risky changes. The tool integrates directly with popular AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) or generates standard configuration files such as CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules, and Copilot instructions. It is designed to be local-first: all data is stored in a single file inside the repository. For teams, an optional sync server can share knowledge without vendor lock-in. AI Dimag offers CLI commands, IDE extensions for VSCode and IntelliJ, and a web dashboard accessible via `dim ui`. AI Dimag is free for teams of up to 10 users under the Elastic License 2.0, with paid commercial licenses for larger teams. It aims to solve the problem of AI coding agents lacking persistent, reliable memory, thereby reducing repetitive explanations and increasing trust in AI-generated code by ensuring facts remain verified.

Problem solved
AI coding agents often lack persistent, reliable memory of a codebase’s unique conventions, past decisions, and pitfalls. They re-discover the same information or trust stale facts, leading to inefficient and error-prone coding sessions. AI Dimag solves this by providing verified, evolving memory that stays up to date and feeds directly into AI tools.
Use cases
- Maintain a shared knowledge base of codebase conventions for an AI coding assistant
- Define guardrails to prevent AI from making dangerous changes
- Automatically flag outdated claims as the codebase changes
- Onboard new AI tools quickly by providing pre-configured rules and memories
- Streamline team collaboration on AI-assisted development with a synced memory
Audience
- Developers
- ML Engineers
- Data Scientists
- Startups
- Enterprise
Pros
- Never explain your codebase twice; memories persist across sessions
- Knowledge you can trust with automatic verification and staleness detection
- Guardrails that AI tools respect, preventing risky actions
- Seamless integration with Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot
- Free for small teams (up to 10 users)
Cons
- Team sync requires self-hosting a server
- Free tier limited to 10 users
- Reliance on CLI and file-based configuration may deter some users
- Verification checks may need manual setup
- Currently supports a limited set of AI coding tools
