Ghostex
Ghostex is an open source native macOS workspace designed for developers who run AI coding agents as command-line interfaces (CLIs). Built with Rust and GPUI, it provides a performant and low-latency environment in which multiple agent terminals can operate side by side. The application is conceptually a fusion of Ghostty's terminal features and the Codex app's user experience, offering an integrated environment that feels familiar to users of both. The workspace embeds browser and IDE editor panes directly into the same window, enabling developers to inspect outputs, read documentation, edit source code, and interact with agents without switching between apps. A built-in Kanban board allows users to organize sessions, track tasks, and manage the work produced by different AI agents. Additionally, Ghostex provides iOS and Android clients, giving users the ability to access and monitor their agent sessions remotely from a mobile device. By combining low-RAM terminal rendering with multiple interactive surfaces, Ghostex aims to reduce the overhead of running several coding agents and companion tools at once. It is available as an open source project on GitHub, inviting developers to inspect, modify, and contribute to its codebase.

Problem solved
Developers working with AI coding agents often need to juggle multiple terminal windows, an editor, and a browser, leading to context switching and high resource usage. Ghostex solves this by providing a single native macOS application where multiple CLI agents can be launched and observed in low-memory terminals, while embedded browser and editor panes and a Kanban board keep all relevant information in one place. Users can also access their sessions remotely from iOS or Android.
Use cases
- Run multiple AI coding agents (e.g., Codex, Claude Code) simultaneously in separate terminal panes
- View and edit files suggested or modified by agents using the embedded IDE
- Browse documentation and agent output references via the integrated browser
- Track agent progress and project tasks using the built-in Kanban board
- Check and control running agent sessions from an iOS or Android device
- Build custom command-line agent workflows within a low-RAM native app
- Experiment with Rust/GPUI-based application development in a practical terminal environment
