Jebi is a modern terminal emulator for macOS, designed to enhance developer productivity with a built-in local AI assistant, a rich set of slash commands, and a sleek, GPU-accelerated interface.

Use Cases ▼
01

Debugging command failures by asking AI for explanations and fixes based on terminal output.

02

Navigating and previewing files with a built-in file explorer via /ls.

03

Inspecting network ports live with /ports.

04

Running scripts and build commands using the /run command picker.

05

Creating custom slash commands to automate repetitive shell workflows.

06

Managing multiple shell sessions in tabs and splits with per-tab context.

What Problem It Solves ▼

Developers often struggle with context switching between the terminal and external tools for debugging, file management, or documentation. Jebi solves this by integrating AI, file explorers, and port inspectors directly into the terminal, enabling users to ask questions, browse files, and manage workflows without leaving their session. Unlike many AI terminals that rely on cloud APIs, jebi runs entirely locally, ensuring that sensitive commands and output never leave the machine, addressing privacy and security concerns.

Key Features ▼

Fully local AI preserves privacy and works offline.

✓

Session-aware context for AI queries without manual copying.

✓

Beautiful, customizable interface with GPU-accelerated rendering.

✓

Rich set of built-in slash commands for quick actions.

Overview

Jebi is a modern terminal emulator for macOS, designed to enhance developer productivity with a built-in local AI assistant, a rich set of slash commands, and a sleek, GPU-accelerated interface. It runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1+) and requires macOS 14 or later. The terminal supports multiple tabs and split panes, each with independent sessions, working directories, and history. Its AI features, powered entirely by local models, provide context-aware suggestions and allow users to ask questions about their current terminal session without any data leaving the machine.

Full Description ▼

The AI assistant, invoked via /ask, can see the full command history and output of the current session, enabling intelligent debugging, explanation of errors, and generation of next steps. Jebi never runs commands automatically; it only suggests, leaving full control to the user. Additional slash commands provide quick access to file explorers, port inspectors, script pickers, and custom user-defined workflows. The interface is customizable with 20 handcrafted color palettes and smart prompt segments that display git branch, Node version, and Python environment at a glance.

Jebi is free and open source, with no subscription or API key required. The application is built with WebGL for smooth scrolling even with high output volumes, and it intelligently handles terminal user interfaces (TUIs) like vim and htop. The tool aims to unify the terminal experience, reducing context switching and repetitive tasks while maintaining user privacy by keeping all computation local.
