Locai is an intelligence, orchestration, and routing layer for AI inference that lets organizations control where their AI runs—on device, on-premises, private cloud, or frontier API.

Use Cases ▼
01

Route routine AI requests to end-user devices to eliminate per-token costs

02

Keep sensitive data on-premises during inference for compliance

03

Provide low-latency AI responses by computing on the device that sends the request

04

Maintain AI functionality in disconnected environments like ships, remote clinics, or construction sites

05

Deploy a company-wide AI workspace for chat and document search without third-party cloud syncing

06

Orchestrate hybrid inference across edge devices, private cloud, and public APIs from a single control plane

07

Build AI-powered products that run on customer devices while still using a consistent API endpoint

What Problem It Solves ▼

Locai solves the challenge of balancing cost, data privacy, latency, and continuity in AI inference by allowing organizations to offload routine tasks to local devices or on-prem servers while reserving cloud APIs for complex requests. It eliminates the need to choose between expensive per-token pricing models and the risk of exposing sensitive data to third-party clouds, instead giving full control over where inference happens through a single unified endpoint.

Key Features ▼
✓

Enforces inference policy to balance cost, privacy, latency, and continuity

✓

Single OpenAI-compatible endpoint simplifies routing across diverse compute targets

✓

Full audit trail for governance and explainability

✓

Runs on existing user-owned infrastructure, avoiding third-party data exposure

✓

Supports offline or disconnected operation with local models

Overview

Locai is an intelligence, orchestration, and routing layer for AI inference that lets organizations control where their AI runs—on device, on-premises, private cloud, or frontier API. It provides a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint that enforces inference policies, dynamically routing each request to the optimal compute target based on cost, privacy, latency, and continuity requirements. The platform includes a control plane for managing fleets of model-nodes, an audit trail for governance, and a workspace for team chat, document, and search running entirely on local infrastructure. Locai is designed for enterprises that need to keep sensitive data within their custody boundary, reduce per-token expenses by shifting routine work to customer-owned silicon, and maintain AI availability even in disconnected environments. It is currently in early development, with components available for macOS, and support for Windows and Linux forthcoming.
