Overview

MapMC is a web-based Minecraft world generator that transforms any real location—such as a city, neighbourhood, or landmark—into a downloadable Minecraft world. Using public OpenStreetMap data, it recreates streets, buildings, water bodies, terrain and land cover as Minecraft blocks. Users can choose between Java Edition (ZIP) and Bedrock Edition (.mcworld) files, making the output accessible on desktop, console and mobile platforms.

Full Description ▼

The workflow is entirely browser-based, requiring no installation. Users start by panning to a location and drawing a bounding rectangle of up to 22 km². They then select their Minecraft edition and adjust generation toggles, such as terrain, interior, roofs and land cover, while a live price preview updates. Once submitted, MapMC fetches the necessary OpenStreetMap data and processes it using Arnis, a Rust-based conversion engine. Larger areas can take 10–20 minutes to generate, after which the world file is ready for download.

MapMC is positioned as an accessible alternative to desktop map-generation tools like Arnis or MapSmith. It handles data fetching, conversion, packaging, hosting and refund logic, removing setup complexity. The generated worlds are intended as a playable starting point rather than a perfect replica, and the results work best in areas with rich OSM data. MapMC supports both Java and Bedrock output and can also be used on mobile devices.
