★ 1 • Updated Jul 14, 2026, 03:13 AM

SoundScript is an open-source, deterministic music language that lets users write melodies, chords, dynamics, and orchestration in plain text.

Use Cases ▼
01

Composing music programmatically with version control

02

Generating deterministic MIDI files for games or interactive media

03

Creating industrial sonification cues for machine states and alarms

04

Producing accessibility audio cues for blind operators

05

Rapid prototyping of musical ideas without a DAW

06

Educational tool for teaching music theory and programming

What Problem It Solves ▼

SoundScript enables programmatic music creation with guaranteed deterministic output, eliminating the need for a DAW or plugins. It allows compositions to be versioned, diffed, and rebuilt identically across platforms, making music behave like code. It also provides a text-based approach for generating audio cues in industrial and accessibility contexts.

Key Features ▼
✓

Fully deterministic output ensures reproducibility

✓

No DAW or plugins required; plain text in, standard MIDI/WAV out

✓

Cross-platform CLI and browser-based playground

✓

Open-source with industrial sonification examples

✓

Compositions can be versioned with Git

Overview

SoundScript is an open-source, deterministic music language that lets users write melodies, chords, dynamics, and orchestration in plain text. The engine parses scripts, applies musical intelligence and playback refinement, and emits standard MIDI files or, with the timbre engine, deterministic WAV/OGG audio. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux via a C#/.NET CLI, and a WebAssembly playground provides a fully client-side browser experience. The pipeline is entirely deterministic: the same script produces byte-identical output on every run, verified by SHA-256 tests, making compositions version-controllable like software. V9 introduces the WordBank vocal engine for offline human-audio vocalization from a curated CC0/CC-BY corpus. Beyond music, SoundScript supports industrial sound augmentation, turning machine data into non-speech audio cues with deterministic scripts, and ships with five complete industrial examples for machine state sonification, conveyor timing drift, robotic arm motion, temperature trends, and blind operator spatial awareness.
