Overview

Spotify DJ is an AI-powered feature within the Spotify music streaming platform that acts as a personalized radio DJ. It uses a combination of generative AI, Spotify's personalization algorithms, and a synthetic voice to create a dynamic listening experience. The DJ curates a continuous stream of music tailored to the user's listening history and preferences, interspersing tracks with spoken commentary that provides context about artists, songs, and genres, much like a human radio host. The feature leverages OpenAI's technology alongside Spotify's own data to generate commentary and select music, ensuring each session feels fresh and engaging. Available to Spotify Premium subscribers, the DJ can be accessed across mobile, desktop, and web apps, updating its selections and commentary based on real-time user interactions such as likes, skips, and replays. The AI voice, modeled after Spotify's Head of Cultural Partnerships Xavier 'X' Jernigan, adds a human-like touch to the digital experience, making music discovery more intuitive and entertaining.
