Tenuo

Open Source
• Updated Sep 14, 2026, 09:54 PM

Tenuo is an open-source authorization layer for AI agent tools.

Use Cases ▼
01

Enforce argument-level authorization for AI agent tool calls

02

Trace and constrain authority across multi-agent delegation chains

03

Prevent privilege escalation when agents delegate tasks to sub-agents

04

Generate signed audit evidence of allowed and denied tool invocations

05

Apply task-scoped permissions to autonomous agent workflows

06

Integrate per-call authorization into agent frameworks and tool routers

What Problem It Solves ▼

AI agents can invoke external tools with broad or inherited permissions, making it difficult to enforce least privilege and audit what actions were actually authorized. Tenuo addresses this by checking each tool call at the argument level and tracing authority across delegation chains, preventing privilege escalation and generating signed evidence of allow or deny decisions.

Key Features ▼
✓

Argument-level authorization checks for each agent tool call

✓

Traces authority across delegation chains to prevent privilege escalation

✓

Produces signed evidence of allow and deny decisions for auditing

✓

Open-source and designed for integration into agent systems

✓

Task-scoped warrants provide fine-grained control over agent permissions

Overview

Tenuo is an open-source authorization layer for AI agent tools. It provides task-scoped permissions by issuing cryptographic warrants that constrain which tools an agent may call and which arguments are acceptable. Each tool invocation is checked at the argument level, so authorization decisions are made per call rather than at a coarse session or agent level. The project is designed to prevent privilege escalation as authority is delegated across multiple agents or steps.

Full Description ▼

Authority is traced across delegation chains: when a parent agent delegates a task to a child agent, the child receives only a constrained subset of the parent's warrants. Tenuo can produce signed evidence of what was allowed or denied, supporting auditability and post-hoc analysis of agent behavior. The project is hosted on GitHub under the tenuo-ai organization and is positioned as an open-source building block for secure AI agent systems.
