Overview

Calnode is an open-source scheduling and video meeting platform designed as a self-hosted replacement for Calendly and Zoom. It ships as a single static Go binary (around 20 MB) with a SQLite file, requiring no external dependencies like PostgreSQL, Redis, or Node.js. The entire system deploys on minimal infrastructure—a small VPS or a container—for pennies per month. It includes a booking page where visitors can schedule meetings via natural language, leveraging an AI that parses intent, checks availability, and confirms directly in the interface. The platform also provides built-in video meetings (Calnode Rooms) via a LiveKit integration, with recordings stored in user-owned S3 buckets.

Full Description ▼

Calnode is AI-native, with conversational scheduling embedded in the booking pages. Visitors can describe their needs in plain English, and the AI handles the scheduling without form fields or timezone calculations. A native MCP (Model Context Protocol) server allows external AI agents to check availability, create bookings, and reschedule. Users can point the system to any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, including local Ollama or private Azure OpenAI deployments, ensuring data sovereignty. The AI notetaker, if enabled, sends audio to Deepgram for transcription, but everything else—video, recordings, and summaries—remains under user control.

The architecture emphasizes privacy and ownership: envelope encryption at rest, per-tenant isolation, and no cross-contamination. Video recordings are stored in the user's own S3-compatible storage, with consent-aware recording that notifies participants. The codebase is small (approximately 25k lines of Go) and auditable, licensed under Apache 2.0, with no premium tiers or paywalled features. It supports Litestream for streaming backups to cloud storage, and a single `docker run` command deploys it.

Overall, Calnode is tailored for developers, engineering teams, and organizations that require data sovereignty, low infrastructure cost, and AI-enhanced scheduling without reliance on third-party SaaS platforms. Its compact footprint and open-source nature make it suitable for self-hosting on personal servers, edge devices, or enterprise environments.
