Knogra
Knogra is an AI-assisted knowledge graph explorer designed for visual learners, researchers, and the deeply curious. It goes beyond static mind maps by organizing ideas into a connected graph that can be divided into focused scenes, making large knowledge structures easier to navigate. The tool is browser-based and works offline, using IndexedDB for local storage, with no server, account, or tracking required. Users can build mind maps, concept maps, memory palaces, equation collections, semantic networks, and long-distance associations. Knogra supports LaTeX for math, Mermaid import/export for diagrams, and offers animated transitions between scenes that reinforce spatial memory. The interface includes 20+ node designs, multiple themes, and custom backgrounds to reduce design overhead. Its topology-aware AI assistant understands the graph's structure, identifies well-connected or isolated ideas, and suggests what to add next; users provide their own AI API key for direct provider calls. Knogra is open source under the MIT License and is available as a desktop web app.

Problem solved
Knogra addresses the difficulty of navigating and remembering complex knowledge structures that become unreadable hairballs in traditional mind mapping or diagramming tools. By splitting graphs into scenes, animating transitions, and providing a topology-aware AI assistant, it helps learners and researchers keep complexity manageable and encode information spatially.
Use cases
- Studying complex academic subjects with visual concept maps and equation collections
- Mapping research literature and cross-domain idea associations
- Creating guided teaching or presentation paths through a knowledge graph
- Building a personal memory palace for spaced learning
- Importing Mermaid diagrams and turning them into interactive, navigable graphs
- Organizing free-form thoughts with mind maps that escape rigid hierarchies
