MemPalace is an open-source AI memory system that stores conversation history as verbatim text and retrieves it with semantic search. It does not summarize, extract, or paraphrase. The index is structured, allowing searches to be scoped rather than run against a flat corpus. The retrieval layer is pluggable, with ChromaDB as the default backend. MemPalace includes a temporal entity-relationship graph with validity windows, backed by local SQLite. It also features auto-save hooks for Claude Code, Codex CLI, and Cursor IDE, saving periodically and before context compression. MemPalace has a Python API, a CLI reference, and a full benchmark methodology. It requires Python 3.9+, a vector-store backend, and approximately 300 MB of disk space for the embedding model. MemPalace is licensed under the MIT license and has a strong focus on community involvement, with a contributing guide and a public notice system.
Solves
MemPalace solves the problem of efficiently storing and retrieving large amounts of conversation history, allowing users to quickly find relevant information and context. This is particularly useful for developers, researchers, and individuals working on complex projects, who need to keep track of multiple conversations, meetings, and discussions. By providing a structured and pluggable retrieval layer, MemPalace enables users to scope their searches and retrieve relevant information without having to manually sift through large amounts of data.
